Charcoal Drawing
26 x 38"
2019
$800
Rope is a study in texture, form, and the delicate balance of light and shadow. Completed in September 2019, this charcoal drawing captures the intricate details of a rope, observed up close in my studio at Johnson County Community College. Measuring 22 x 29 on paper, framed at 26 x38", the piece explores the contrasts between the soft, organic texture of the rope and the hard-edged precision of the charcoal medium.
The drawing invites the viewer to engage with the materiality of the rope—its strands twisted tightly together, carrying Tiean’s inherent tension and strength. Through subtle shading and intricate mark-making, I aimed to evoke the object’s roughness and fluidity, highlighting the beauty of its structure and the nuances in its fibers.
This piece reflects my interest in capturing everyday objects and transforming them into something profound, giving attention to the often-overlooked details in the world around us.
